Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook stated that Passenger Service Charge (PSC) in Malaysia will be lowered for those travelling to countries beyond ASEAN. The reduction in charges will be applicable from October 1st.

Speaking at a press conference, Loke explained that the PSC will be reduced to 50 MYR in Malaysia, except for the country’s main airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Furthermore, the charge will not be lowered for passengers travelling to local or ASEAN destinations. The reduced charge is expected to boost Malaysia’s tourism sector.

‘The departure levy was announced by the finance minister during the Budget 2019 presentation, as a means to add government revenue and improve the country's fiscal position.’ Loke added, ‘But at the same time, we hear the people's views on the increased costs, so the Cabinet has decided to reduce the PSC to balance with the departure levy.’

Moreover, Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich scheme released a new system to offer passengers travelling in business class to receive automatic Gold tier status. In order to qualify, customers must buy the tickets by 16th September for travel prior to 30th July 2020. The airline’s Regional Manager for UK and Europe, Daniel Bainbridge said, ‘We are absolutely thrilled to launch this campaign and have the opportunity to showcase our excellent product. This stunning opportunity to experience exotic locations such as Bali and Brisbane while being rewarded with ‘Gold’ status is an unmissable opportunity for Malaysia Airlines passengers old and new.’
